Hotter Than Hot Lava
When we moved to Mesquite 21 months ago, I teased Emmett and Lydia saying that in Mesquite it would be hotter than hot lava. They were extremely concerned and Emmett questioned with eyebrows knit together and a note of panic in his voice, "But how will we come visit you Auntie Em?!" If only I could have know how close to the truth my joke had been. Check out this week's 10 day forecast.

And guess what? That looks good compared to the last few days! Yesterday when we got out of church our car temperature read 122 degrees! I think the official temperature was 119 and the days leading up to that were all above 115 as well. The National Weather Service has put out an "Excessive Heat Warning" reminding people to stay in doors as heat-related issues caused deaths for 17 people in the Las Vegas area in 2005 when the heat reached 112. And we're now 3-10 degrees over that! A lady in my ward named Jem Pulver put on her status a little while ago, "It's worth it in the winter. It's worth it in the winter. It's worth it in the winter." At this point, I'm just grateful we won't be here a year from now to have to endure another summer like this!
We've been holed up inside for days and I'm starting to go a little coo-coo. I would go to the pool to cool off, but it doesn't open until noon (right when Daph is winding down for her nap) and everyone and their dog is at the pool these days. Our neighbors, the Boyds, had the right idea when the first thing they did when they moved in was to build a beautiful pool. We may need to start hinting at how nice it would be to have one of our own. :) haha! Thank goodness we'll be in the mountains in just 3 days with my family for the 4th of July! I can hardly wait!
Daphne at a neighborhood pool party a few weeks ago - I think there were 12 kids in the pool at one point.
