Color Me Rad 2013

Picking up our gear the night before the race.

On Saturday, September 28, Burke and I were joined by our good friend Brandalee Burr in running the Color Me Rad 5K in St. George.  About six months previous I had interviewed Scott Crandall, Partner and President of the Color Me Rad race series, for our online entrepreneurial magazine (previously "Capital Network Magazine" and recently re-branded as "Outlier Magazine" - check it out HERE) and his PR Rep was kind enough to offer us free entries if we were interested in running the race in the fall.  Remembering her offer, I emailed her a few weeks ago and she gave me a code for 4 free entries - wahoo!

Here we are all squeaky clean before the race started with our RAD tattoos.  I loved that the pre-race entertainment included a twinky eating contest (sick), lots of fun music and a series of zumba routines to warm the runners up.  Oh how I love Zumba!  Burke was a total party pooper and wouldn't dance with me!

Before the race began, they handed out packets of color to throw into the air right before we got started.  The race photographers grabbed this shot of Burke tossing a cloud of orange cornstarch to get us fired up.

Throughout the race you are periodically bombed with packets of dyed cornstarch and colored water, leaving your clothes and skin a multi-colored mess!  The whole event was brimming with energy from runners dressed in fluorescent tutus, an assortment of crazy costumes and happy faces flashing color from the complimentary "rad" glasses.  The location was a bit desolate (on top of D hill on the old airport runways), but we still had a great time nonetheless.

The race isn't timed, but when you cross the finish line, volunteers hand you a packet of color as a sort of "finishers trophy" to be used at your fancy.  Well, Burke's fancy just happened to be as we were standing in line for the photo booth.  He grabbed his packet and squeezed with all his might, accidentally shooting an explosion of pink cornstarch right into my face.  I was spitting pink dust for 5 minutes!  We had a great time and would love to do it with an even bigger crowd next year!

P.S. A big thanks goes out to Cassie and Dan for watching the wee one while we ran.  We so appreciate you Riding family!
