December Visit to Logan

On our way to Logan for Tasha's wedding, the Kirby family was kind enough to host us for 2 nights in Salt Lake.  The first night we got in late and went to bed right away.  The next day the kids had school, so Daphne had some fun one-on-one time with Amira and Amy watched Darcie while Burke and I went for a jog.  When we returned the rest of the day was a blur - those Kirby kids are one busy crew with preschool parties, school projects, basketball, piano and musical practice and Kaleo's performance of "The Nutcracker."  In between all this, Burke and I did a quick run to Ikea and then dashed out to the airport to pick up Chelsea who had just arrived after 24 hours (or was it 36 Chels?) of travel from Singapore.  You would not believe how well she held up in the 3 days she was there before turning right back around to get home in time for Christmas with her little family.  I was truly amazed by her stamina and positive attitude.  That night, Gabe and Ellen also arrived to spend the night with the Kirboids and we had a fantastic conversation around the dinner table late that night.  Here are a few pictures from the day, mostly courtesy of Chelsea.

Kaleo, Gideo and Amira loving on baby Darcie

Couch I wanted SOOO bad from IKEA for our yellow, gray and white basement. Having a baby kinda kills bank accounts.  Maybe next year.

Kaleolani - the most darling and talented of all the Mirlitons in "The Nutcracker Ballet".

Kaleo, I hope you realize how suh-weet your Aunties are.  I mean, who else takes a picture as good as that bottom pose?  And we wonder why I was never a dancer?  Also - why do I always have to make an idiot of myself?!  I think I know I'm going to look foolish anyway, so I just go all out and end up blushing at half of my photos in hind sight.  Oh well, at least you know we adore you KK!

Fantastic Christmas tree in the window of a home in Amy's neighborhood.  I am trying to convince Burke this is what we need to do next year.

Down time at the Kirbys

This little lady got plenty of mugging throughout the weekend as well.  I loved seeing her in the arms of my family members and watching them dote on her.

As mentioned in my previous post, Friday night and Saturday morning were dedicated to wedding affairs.  However, by 1 o'clock on Saturday, the bride and groom were on their way and Gabe convinced the majority of the family to play the "Fun Center" in North Logan.  I stayed home and napped with Darcie while Burke took Daphne with the rest of the fam.  They had a blast rollerskating, playing in the play land and in the arcade.

All the while, Gabe and Elijah attempted to realize their synchronized rollerskating ambitions in one afternoon.  I love my brothers and their bizarre talents!

And I about died when Burke came home and showed me the pictures he had snagged of Joshua licking the wrapper of his fat boy ice cream wrapper.  Can you tell this kid doesn't get to eat sugar very often?

Both Saturday and Sunday night we stayed up late playing games with the adults.  Usually we are playing board games like Risk, Survive, Seven Wonders, Illuminate, etc., but this time around we played the two new games that Devon and April gave Burke and I for Christmas; Werewolf and Telestrations.  The pictures below are taken during a couple of rounds of Werewolf.  In a vocal family like mine where you have to try and guess who the werewolves are killing off the villagers, you can imagine this game got hilarious AND heated!  April's mock look of shock when she was called out (rightly so!) as a werewolf absolutely kills me, as well as all the finger pointing and suspicious facades.  I had an absolute blast playing this game!

Sunday morning Gabe and Ellen entertained Lydia, Emmett and Daphne before church with a game he invented where you draw 6 characters in a themed army (for example Gabe's cave family army is on the top right) and attack another person's drawings.  You roll a dice to see if your character beats the character you're battling (tie going to the defender) and then you have to draw an X through the character if it is eliminated.  Last army with characters not crossed out wins.  It was hilarious to watch and the kids were SO into it.  Although this is obviously out of Uncle Gabe's hat of tricks, I got a kick watching Ellen play as well.  It was yet another testament to me that my siblings have all married spouses completely perfect for them! :)

After a wonderful block of church meetings we took some pictures around the Christmas tree in our Sunday best.  I love that Millie and Daphne ended up matching on accident.  And that picture of Grandpa group hugging the little ladies is so precious.

The kids were getting a little antsy in the evening, so I sat Daphne down to read her some stories.  Soon I had a whole crowd of the nieces and nephews snuggling up to hear some of the books I remember reading as a kid.  I love these pictures Burke snagged, especially because of the happy interactions going on in the background too.  I can't tell you how much peace and happiness I feel when my family gets together.

Monday morning, Burke, the girls and I joined Gabe, Ellen, my Mom and Maia (the rest of the family still in town were up skiing at Little Beaver) for lunch at the new restaurant on USU campus called Mortys.  Pretty sweet location and it is neat that Gabe's old band member has brought to life such a fun project.  After munching on scrumptious sweet potato fries and burgers, we packed up the truck and hit the road.  (Side story: Burke's company needed a desk picked up from the Logan and brought down to Cedar.  They were going to ship it for $600 bucks until they found out we were headed to Logan that same week.  We got to drive a company truck and trailer to pick up the desk which meant all our gas for the trip was free.  Such a blessing!)

Beautiful Maia at Mortys

All in all it was a wonderful trip, even though it was way too short as always!
