September Happenings

On Labor Day we went to Parowan, but for the first time in 5 years, the Suit Coats decided not to make an appearance.  Kevin has been busy with his MBA program and with Burke starting the new job, they decided not to perform this year.  Instead we were able to enjoy the parade, lunch with a group of the Urie/Adams extended families and kiddie rides at the fair for Daphne (courtesy of Uncle Matt who bought tickets for Logan that he didn't use).

Grandma Elaine rode with us up to the parade and, as usual, Daphne flipped when Burke and I escorted her on our arms to the chairs.  There have been several times now when Daphne has become upset (so much so that she begins to bawl her eyes out!) when we go to help Grandma.  I think it's because she doesn't like seeing someone else touching Burke or me - spoiled first child.  But she made up for her rude behavior later when she looked at Grandma Elaine and said, "Gwandma - you amazing!"  Yes, yes she is amazing.  She will be 95 in February and has been a widow for over 45 years.  She told Burke a few weeks ago that she was ready to go.  At first he didn't understand what she meant and when it registered he said, "Oh, you mean go go."  She said she didn't know why the Lord still has her here and she's ready any time.  It made me wonder if this will be the last picture we take with her.

Okay, so I just checked the date and these next pictures were actually at the tail end of August and should have been in my previous post.  Cassie was a darling and got us tickets to "Thoroughly Modern Millie" at Tuacahn so we could have a little sister time together.  I've seen the show on Broadway years ago and at the Hale Theater in Salt Lake, but I was just as entertained and impressed with the production on a third viewing.  We had such a good time together having uninterrupted time to talk and laugh.  I'm lucky to have such a wonderful sister.

Earlier that day Daphne, Lydia, Emmett and I played Twister.  Daphne kept sprawling out all over the mat and cracking us all up.

Okay, let's discuss this little doozie!  As we were dejunking as we moved into the new house, Burke found his DSC Alumni card and we absolutely died laughing at the ultimate spelling error for the year!  Can't believe he didn't notice it when he first got the card.

We've made several trips to the mountain this summer.  These pictures were from the day we went when Kellie and Wes were in town and it poured rain most of the time we were there.  We took Roxy along and Lyndee and Hallie could not get enough of her!  Burke burned his hand and I got a stomach ache from something we ate - not my favorite trip up the mountain to say the least.

However, driving around with my Burkie, enjoying this beautiful view and having baby girl fall asleep in my arms never gets old.

Two weeks ago we went up to Yankee Reservoir just above Co-Op.  It was the first time I have ever been there and also the first time I have ever been fishing.  Apparently the water is WAY low this year, but I enjoyed sitting on the rocky bank with the family, watching the girls throw rocks into the water and trying my hand at casting a line.  I thought I had a fish once when I got stuck in the weeds and a few minutes later I started freaking out again as I felt a very definite tugging...of Alan's line!  Whoops!  No fishies for us.

The other night we were putting Daphne to bed when a glorious sunset caught our eye through the laundry room window.  I didn't know Burke was taking photos and I love how he captured the look of wonder on Daphne's face as she admired the golden pink sky.  Marinda said Cedar City has the most beautiful sunsets she has ever seen.  We're beginning to see that for ourselves!
Having Kristen in town has been so awesome.  We see her a couple of times a week for dinners, visits and Duck Dynasty episodes.  Daphne will sometimes wake up in the morning after Burke has left for work and ask where Daddy is followed quickly by, "Where's Krissy?"  I now understand why all of my older siblings were always anxious for an update on my dating life back when I was single.  We love hearing what's going on in her life and have to constantly remind ourselves to not give unsolicited advice on her love life. :) She's a good sport about it.

A couple of weeks ago Kris ran her first race in the Cedar City Half Marathon and totally smashed her anticipated time.  We weren't expecting her to be there for another 30 minutes and were so sad to have missed her crossing the finish line.  However, that didn't diminish how proud we are of her and this huge accomplishment!

Daphne went to the dentist for the first time a couple of weeks ago.  We went to a pediatric dentist and I was blown away by how welcoming they made their office.  The whole waiting room was a Western Theme (as you can see below) with murals of cowboys herding cattle, a series of Western houses to play in, wagon wheel light fixtures along with comfy black leather benches, a big screen TV playing animated movies and touch computer screens with kid games on one wall.  Impressive to say the least.  The 1.5 hour wait...not so impressive.  She was remarkable and didn't fuss a bit for the dentist.  Turns out she has a cross bite in the making, but it will be a few years until we can sort it out.

Last week Daphne and I tagged along with Burke to Salt Lake so we could spend a couple of days with the Kirbys while he was in training meetings.  I loved the simplicity of playing at a rad park near their home, pushing Daphne and Amira down the zipline swing, eating lunch with Kaleo at school, hearing a little about the Kirbys service trip to the Dominican Republic, shooting hoops with the whole fam, listening to Zakia on the piano (he is getting SO good!), having Gideon tell me about the little girls who are in love with him in kindergarten, visiting with Mom and Amy about family history and swimming in the hotel pool with Amy, Amira and Gideon.  There is always so much to do in Salt Lake, but I loved just hanging out with my sister and would take that over any museum any day.
