Salt Lake Visits
In April and May, we went to South Jordan twice for meetings at Burke's company headquarters. The first time we stayed at the Kirby's and found not one, but three white boards with pictures of "nerds" welcoming us for the visit. We have the best nieces and nephews! :) The next day while Burke was in meetings, Amy, Amira, Daphne and I went to the new Aquarium in South Jordan. Some of the displays were still in the process of being finished, but we still had a great time touching the rays, watching the penguins dive playfully and of course admiring the sharks and turtles in the underground shark tunnel.
I loved watching the girls watch the fish almost as much as seeing the sea life myself! They were cracking each other up, taking turns sitting on top of each other in the stroller when we would wheel to the next exhibit. I don't know how good that was for poor Amira's little broken leg (in a cast from heel to knee), but their peels of laughter were too fun to listen to put a stop to their antics. Unfortunately we left that same day as Burke had to be at the office in Cedar the next morning, but it was fun as always to see the Kirboids for a few hours.
The next time we came up, we stayed at a hotel as Burke's meetings were going to last a few days and the Kirbys were also just about to put their home up for sale with their realtor coming to take pictures and everything needing to stay spick'n'span. I wanted to help Amy with all of her preparations, but I fear we were a hindrance sometimes rather than a help. However, I did get to see Gideon receive an award for being "Eagle of the Month", teach a mini-lesson on personal finance to the kindergardeners and Kaleolani's 3rd grade class, see the Kirby's new home they are closing on at the end of this week, try the famous "Cafe Zupas" I have heard so much about (I highly recommend it!) take Kaleo to her ballet class and see how graceful and elegant she looked in leotard, tights, slippers and a tight hair bun, hear Zakia play his awesome piano piece for the middle school talent show and watch Daphne and Amira pal around with zero contention for 2 days. Daphne and I also had a great morning swimming at the pool, sleeping late (she slept later those 2 days than she has in her entire little life - 9 o'clock one morning!) and eating breakfast at the hotel. Thanks for letting us come see you Kirby family, it is always a pleasure!
