My Cowboy on the Cow Herd

Summer time is crazy time at the farm.  There is so much going on and so much work to be done all the time.  Burke gets all tingly with excitement when Mike or his Dad call him up and say it's time to start putting up a crop of hay.  One thing we have loved about living in Enoch so close to Parowan is that Burke can go up and help with the farm work from time to time after work and get his "farm therapy" in without it being a big inconvenience for our family.

This is actually right behind our house.  Our neighbor, Brent Hunter, has an alfalfa farm behind us and it is so enjoyable to wake up each morning and get to see what's being done on the farm while we eat our breakfast.

In June, Burke was also able to get off work and use one of his flex schedule days to help with the cow herd up the mountain.  Due to all the pain he's had in his knee since the horse kicked him in April, he opted to ride one of the 4-wheelers instead of a horse, which gave him an unusual opportunity to snap pictures of the herd throughout the day.  Here are some of the shots he took from his phone.  Not always great quality, but it gives you an idea of what the process looks like for these cowboys.

Markings inside the cabin.  Some of them are dated back into the 70's from when Alan and Alma first took over the farm.
