Thought Provoking Articles

I actually read these articles over a week ago, but was in the midst of recapping Daphne's birthday and decided to hold off on posting them.  They have both gone viral, so you may have already seen these, but I thought they were worth sending your way.

The first is an article on a high school convocation speech given in Massachusetts by David McCullough Jr. (son of the prominent historian and author David McCullough) who bluntly told the graduates that they are not special.  His thoughts are expressed so perfectly for this puffed-up and pampered generation, reminding them that even if you are 1 in a million, on a planet of 6.8 billion that means there are nearly 7,000 people just like you!  It was such a breath of fresh air to hear someone saying it straight.  The article is a good recap, but I suggest scrolling halfway down the page to the video link and watching the speech for yourself.  Definitely worth the 12 minutes.

The next article comes from a blog entitled "The Weed" and is a coming out post by a homosexual Mormon man who has been married for 10 years, has 3 little girls and plans to remain happily married and active in his religion.  Josh Weed and his wife sat down together on their 10 year anniversary and made the courageous decision to admit his sexual orientation to the world so he could offer another perspective and choice for homosexual men who want to live the laws of God and stay true their faith.  The post is super long, but incredibly interesting.  Burke and I sat down together and took turns reading and discussing for probably close to an hour.  I was amazed by this man's faith and inspired by his wife who married him knowing he was sexually attracted to men and proceeding to create a joyful marriage, family and life together all the same.  I wonder how this will alter the conversations taking place in the world about homosexuality.  I know it gave Burke and I much to ponder on.  Again, definitely worth your time.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on both.
