Keeping It Real

Our best attempt at a family picture before Burke's show on Labor Day.  She was not having it. (This is the deep breath before the shrieking Dill let loose)

Today my sister posted a series of pictures of her kids crying and a video of her son throwing a tantrum.  At the end she said, "Just keepin it real around here."  I loved her willingness to show all aspects of motherhood and would like to follow suit!  I know I often post about how enamored I am with my sweet baby girl, but to be sure there are hard days.  Like yesterday when she woke up grumpy and stayed that way all day long which of course resulted in a tired and grumpy Emily by the time Burke got home from work.

Daphne fake crying in Parowan to try and get her way

Another not so fun trait of Daphne's at this age is that every time we get in the car now she thinks we are driving six hours to Logan (even if we're just going around the block) and throws massive fits.  She has this horrid high pitch scream that can send your blood pressure through the roof in less than two seconds.  And her favorite thing to do is scream, "MAMA! MAMA! MAMA! MAMA!" Over and over and over again while I respond softly, "Yes Daphne?  Yes sweetheart?  Yes baby girl, what can Mama do for you?"  By the twentieth Mama I'm losing my cool, "WHAT DO YOU WANT CHILD?!"  I'm pretty thrilled for her language skills to pick up so we can communicate her needs in the car a little better.

The Daphodile throwing a fit on our drive from Montana to Logan.  Can't say that I blame her.  I would loath being strapped into a seat for 6 hours too.

Also, since Daphne was about 4 months old, she has refused to sleep anywhere but a crib.  Which is great 90% of the time because she sleeps so awesome at night, but not so fortunate when we are on a looooong car ride and she flatly refuses to shut her eyes.  So, as long as we're keeping it real, here's a little video we took on our drive home from Montana.  I had passed our screaming child a strawberry to munch on and, not kidding, less than 30 seconds later turned around to see this messy, miserable, exhausted little pup!  Good thing we have days like this to help us appreciate when they are such angels the majority of the time.

Glad to see we aren't the only ones with those kinds of days! :)

Ah, yes. That was totally Hyrum when we drove to Idaho for the Bush reunion and then on to Montana. It took weeks for him to not scream in the car. Happy to report he is much better now. It is great what time and patience can do for parenting!
