Temple Trips

One of my favorite things about being married to Burke is our weekly temple work together. We have both benefited from the example of our parents and their faithful temple service over the years. There is no doubt that many of our blessing as a family have come from it. Burke and I decided that we also want to demonstrate the importance of temple service to our future children, so while we were engaged we made a goal to attend the temple once a week. After being married in June, we spent an afternoon of our honeymoon doing work in the San Diego temple. It is breathe taking and we'd love to go back again!
Throughout the summer the St. George temple was a wonderful place to worship and serve, but in August we confronted the first obstacle to our goal; they would be closing the building for two weeks for cleaning. At that point we had to decide how important our goal was to us. Burke and I evaluated our finances/time/commitments and decided it was worth the small sacrifices to keep up the habit we are trying to establish. The first week we drove 2 hours to Las Vegas and had a wonderful experience in the endowment there (as well as the amazing cafeteria...yum!) and our drive home was filled with stimulating conversation and uninterrupted time together.
The second week it was the Iron County Fair (September 4-7) and we were up in Parowan for the weekend. We woke up at 5 AM on Saturday morning and drove 2 and 1/2 hours north to the Manti Temple where my parents were married 33 years ago. Burke and I were blown away by Manti - both inside and out. I felt like I had more insights during that session alone then all others combined. The Lord certainly blessed us for the small sacrifices we made and I felt it reconfirmed that the efforts we are making to worship and serve in the temple are incredibly important in our lives.
