One of Those Mornings
6:10: Alarm goes off. Hit snooze and snuggle with my sweetheart.
6:20: Get up with Burke. Say morning prayers together. Shuffle around trying to get him some breakfast, read a few verses from the scriptures, and assist in packing a lunch before he dashes out the door for his Mesquite commute.
6:45: Jump in the shower
6:50: Lean out of the shower and hit on the vent before our smoke detector reacts for the 9th time this month.
7:00: Pull out blow dryer. Click! Blow dryer is dead. Put hair in ponytail.
7:30: Go out to the van (*Side note: borrowed Burke's parent's monstrous van for the duration of student teaching so we didn't have to buy another car. Made Burke drive it. Until it turns out he only gets to drive the Kokapelli truck around town in Mesquite, but still needs to drive our own car to work. I relinquish the Corrolla reluctanty as I am terrified to drive the van and have had 2 bad experiences with it over the last few weeks), attempt to turn key in ignition. Key will not turn.
7:35: On the verge of tears, call Burke frantically trying to get the d*** keys to turn. He has never had this problem. Burke makes several suggestions. None work.
7:40: Sobbing now. Run inside the house to get phone number to the school (foolishly have never gotten my mentor teacher's cell number).
7:42: Call Pine View and get the answering machine - the school hasn't switched over their lines for daylight savings.
7:45: Back in the car. Yanking on keys. Screaming at keys. Crying some more.
7:46: Call Cassie. No answer.
7:47: Call Cassie again. No answer.
7:48: Call Danelle. Answers and mercifully agrees to come give me a ride right away.
7:55: Call Pine View. Get answering machine.
8:05: Jump in Danelle's car. Cry some more.
8:10: First period starts. I am not there.
8:15: Jump out and hobble into the building.
8:17: Walk into class. See mentor teacher and students. Cry yet again. Incredibly embarrassed.
8:20-3:00: Teach a successful, but exhausting day of school.
3:30: Make resolution: Never driving the van EVER again.
Currently: Waiting for Burke to finish work, drive back to St. George and come pick me up. What a day.
