52 Dates: #37 - The Kirby Krew & Aladdin at Tuhacan
Last Wednesday and Thursday we had the delightful opportunity to host my eldest sister Amy and the rest of the Kirby family. We LOVE having visitors and enjoyed having them here. Poor Gideon and Amira were sicky and threw up on their 5 hour drive and then Amira proceeded to yack all night long which made for a sleepless night for Amy and Karl. I was so impressed with how happy and fun the kids were to be around despite the sickies and a sleepless night.
The next day we took a morning walk along the river where the kids got to glimpse a few of the cotton-tailed rabbits and quail that often dart across our path on my walks with Daphne.
We mosied around the algae-infested pond at the park,
shot a few water balloons with the three-man sling Mom gifted Burke at his birthday (thanks Mom!),
and played some casual tennis with Daphne eagerly collecting loose shots as our designated ball girl.
After a scrumptious lunch at Los Lupes, the Kirbys drove to St. George to spend the afternoon with the Ridings and after work Burke, Daphne and I drove up to join them for dinner. Unfortunately, the construction and consequent traffic in the Gorge left us with only 10 minutes to scarf down some food and dash out the door with the Kirbys to make it to Tuacahn Theater in time for an elaborate stage production of "Aladdin".

The live camels and peacocks, pyrotechnics, lighting and 3D glasses for the Cave of Wonders scene were all lots of fun. Although the actors who played Aladdin and Jasmine had nice voices, I thought they were both terrible actors, not to mention the monotone Sultan who deadpanned every line. However, the Genie, Jafar and his hilarious side-kick Iago, plus a lively chorus oozed enough energy to help offset the poor performance of the principle actors. And there is no denying that the magic carpet floating above the heads of the audience was exceptionally well done! Although not my favorite production we've been to at Tuacahn, we still enjoyed ourselves and loved listening to Kaelo and Zakia laughing their heads off at some of the Genies fast-paced jokes. And yes, I'm counting this as a date because Daphne wasn't with us, the tickets were spendy and Burke looked sooo good in his Paris jeans that I have to make him wear every few months on date nights even though he hates them! :)
