The Gratitude Project - Day 4

Today I am grateful for manifestations of the spirit working in our lives as well as those around us.  Recently we had decided to do a winter retreat with our YW group to help build unity and an enthusiasm for the YW program.  As a presidency we began to plan topics to discuss and activities we could do to help our girls.  They all seem to be struggling with one thing or another right now and we had decided that the theme should be something like, "It Is Better to Look Up" based off of THIS phenominal talk given in general conference a year ago in October 2011.  Jen Edvalson (our YW president) had mentioned how she would like to try a "Positivity Experiment" based off of a talk given by Hillary Weeks at a recent Time Out for Women conference.  Basically, the girls would be given a counter that they could carry with them and click throughout the day any time they had a positive thought or did something kind for someone else.  We loved the idea and Jen started to search for the clickers to order online.  Anyway, as it turns out, we had to cancel the retreat and Jen had found a great deal on counters one day online and then couldn't for the life of her find them again.  We were bummed to put off the retreat, especially when we felt like there were things our girls really needed to hear.

ALL of that to say that today we had a combine Relief Society and YW meeting and our wonderful RS President, Victoria Hafen, talked about acting on promptings, being the answer to other people's prayers and how that can result in a greater sense of happiness in our lives.  She then went on to talk about THE EXACT same talk Jen had planned to reference and then she pulled out darling pink clickers for everyone - including our YW and talked about beginning a Positive Thought Experiment.  It was just too perfect.  Our girls got to hear exactly what we had hoped for them to hear!  It was such a testament to me that our Heavenly Father is so aware of our desires and what we need in our lives.  Although he couldn't get that positive message to the girls through us, he prompted Sister Hafen to be the vehicle of the message instead and uplift all of us by initiating the Positive Thought Experiment.

So this week I begin to count my thoughts.  A click for every kind thought, a click for every Christ-like action, a click for every loving word.  How perfect to be counting positivity in my life while I try to focus on gratitude as well.  They seem to be quite harmonious goals, don't they?  Join me if you'd like!

P.S. I just found the talk on youtube that they were referencing.  Enjoy!
